U.S. crude stockpiles fell by 1.4 million barrels in the week through May 11, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
Physical spot cargoes are trading at discount to financial crude, while S&P Global Ratings reports that production by oil majors is rising.
Global oil demand is likely to moderate this year, the International Energy Agency said on Wednesday.
