“As a company, Bennett wanted to show our appreciation to the HCPD for their time and effort teaching a self-defense class for women here at Bennett,” said Bennett Vice President, Lynette Alt Mathis. The 3-day class, with one day at Henry County’s new shooting range, teaches women how to protect themselves against perpetrators. Ms. Alt added, “I want to thank the Bennett Charity Committee, the many HCPD officers and the SWAT Team for getting involved in staging such a successful event.”
Accepting the proceeds on behalf of the Henry County Police Department was Chief Keith Nichols who said, “We are very pleased with the reaction from the public and their support. It takes teamwork both from the community and their police department. Bennett’s support increases the odds that as a team, we will be successful in combating crime and serving the community.”
Ideas for potential uses of the proceeds include construction of a canopy to protect users of the shooting range from the elements and additional demo guns for gun safety demonstrations. Further needs within the department include gear for the SWAT team such as tactical helmets, and updates to HCPD’s “total station” which is a tool used for traffic accident reconstruction and documentation of crime scenes for court.
Plansare well underway for Bennett’s 2nd annual “Heat Is On” 5K Run/Walk, to be held at Atlanta Motor Speedway on May 3, 2014. The challenge is set to attract full support from the Sheriff Department, Fire Department, SWAT Team and Henry County Police Department.
