To be considered for the project the preferred vendors were those that operate within the state of Georgia, are a diverse company, and are registered with the city of Atlanta. As a woman-owned company, Bennett is a certified Female Business Enterprise with the city’s Equal Business Opportunity Program, which is within the parameters of the Atlanta New Stadium Project Equal Business Opportunity Plan that states “the intent to achieve a minimum goal of at least 31 percent participation by M/FBEs (Minority/Female Business Enterprise) in connection with the design and construction of the NSP (New Stadium Project).” Bennett not only met the preferences for the project but above all has the experience, expertise, and resources to handle the scope of the transportation and logistical details of this project.
Charles Phillips, president of Bennett International Logistics, said that among the many reasons Bennett was chosen for the project, there is simply no transportation company like Bennett in the state of Georgia.
“Bennett employs experienced experts using leading edge technology to manage complex logistics, warehousing, distribution and transportation challenges giving us the ability to serve our customers with efficiency and cost effective solutions,” Phillips said. “In the state of Georgia and elsewhere, there are few providers that can bring our level of flatbed and heavy haul trucking assets coupled with proven experience managing the demands of complex projects.”
In early 2015, Bennett drivers began hauling the raw steel from the port in Savannah to several fabrication plants around the U.S. Once the steel is ready, Bennett drivers will then haul the fabricated steel from the plants to the final destination, the city of Atlanta stadium site where the steel beams will be used in the structure of the state of the art sports facility.
Plans for the approximately 1,800,000 square foot facility include a unique retractable roof with a 100,000 square foot opening that includes a transparent ETFE Skin, a fluorine-based plastic designed to have high resistance to corrosion and strength over a wide range of temperatures, and 72,000 seats expandable to more than 75,000 seats.
“The stadium will be a show place for years to come,” Phillips said. “And we are honored that Bennett is participating in the construction of this premier facility in the state of Georgia.”
