Over the weekend, an independent contractor for Bennett used a Bennett-owned trailer and a customer-owned truck to join a protest convoy and publicize his involvement. The subsequent actions taken by Bennett and our customer were captured on social media. These actions included:
- Our customer requesting the removal of protest-related stickers from their equipment.
- Our customer requesting return of the equipment to the nearest convenient facility.
- The contractor safely returning the equipment to a truck stop.
- Bennett offering to pay for the contractor to fly home.
- The contractor electing to terminate his contract with Bennett during our discussions with him over return of the Customer’s truck.
While Bennett supports contractors and owner operators’ rights to protest on their own time, it is against company policy to use company, or customer equipment to participate, or to participate when loaded with customer freight, in such protests.
We continue to monitor the situation and pray for the peaceful, meaningful results American truck drivers deserve.
